Meet the recruitment team in North America

Back to news

Todd Crook, Recruitment Manager based in Toronto, Canada tells us about his role at JMC Aviation.

I started working with JMC Aviation in 2015 and have gained over a decade’s worth of experience within aviation recruitment since then. I’ve supported a variety of our airline, MRO and production clients attract top talent for their roles, and built trusting and longstanding relationships with contractors and clients alike over the last 10 years.

The start of my journey with JMC Aviation was as an apprentice, and with the support and guidance of JMC Aviation I was able to progress steadily and gain some great knowledge of recruitment. What attracted me to JMC Aviation was the fast-paced environment, but more importantly the company values and how they show throughout the business. Each team plays a key role in ensuring the service we provide our customers and contractors is as high quality as possible and we pride ourselves in our 100% customer retention rate. I believe it is our commitment to quality that sets us apart from other aviation recruitment agencies.

What is the biggest challenge you perceive facing the industry?
The workforce keeping up with the demand poses a real challenge for many operators within the aviation industry. The industry lost a large number of skilled workers to other adjacent industries during the COVID period, and this gap has continued to worsen due to a significant number of experienced technicians retiring and not enough young workers coming through training schemes to backfill.

I see this as being a long-term challenge for the sector and am proud to work for a business that not only understands this challenge, but is consistently pivoting to be in a position to address it and provide customers innovative solutions to keep the industry moving.

What do you enjoy most about your role at JMC Aviation?
Being able to work with customers, contractors and the team at JMC Aviation to help provide the best solution to the challenges we are facing. The growth of the business into global markets is truly exciting, as I now work as the Recruitment Manager for our North America operation, based in Toronto, Canada. Working on this side of the pond presents new challenges for us as a growing business, but the expertise in-house that we bring to this new market means we are continuing to satisfy our customer’s requirements with our innovative approach to the skills shortage.

What advice would you give a contractor exploring their options for their next role within aviation?
Call JMC Aviation, speak with myself or one of the team members and we can support you in finding that next step in your career and navigate an everchanging job market! We have multiple roles in maintenance and production coming up, and our team can help match your skills with the right role.

What makes a resume stand out for you when you’re recruiting for a role?
Clear Information – The most important thing is making the information throughout your resume clear and ensuring the real key points stand out. If you are a skilled AME with significant heavy maintenance experience on the A320, make that crystal clear from the get go so recruiters can quickly review your suitability for the role. Hiring managers are often busy, so making your resume as easy to read as possible gives you a much better chance of making the next stage. If you are unsure about your resume or would benefit from some guidance, our recruitment team are always happy to advise and support in putting you in the best position possible for taking the next steps in aviation.

What are the most common roles you are recruiting for?
Our roles vary throughout the year, from inspectors to methods engineers and tank workers to ACAs. However, the most common would be AMEs and A&Ps depending on the location of the work. We do however have new roles coming up consistently, so if aviation is your sector of choice and you have the skills required we’d love to hear from you.

How do you most enjoy spending your time outside of work?
‘Trying’ to keep active through the gym and playing squash. If I’m not doing that then I’m probably watching football, ice hockey or baseball. I don’t think you can live in Canada and not enjoy the hockey!
