Tell us about your career at JMC Aviation so far
I joined JMC Aviation in January 2023, initially as a Senior Recruitment consultant in the permanent division, focusing on account management and delivery of direct hire candidates and supporting consultants in the team. I work on a variety of roles but my bread and butter is skilled engineers.
Over time my role developed to include on-boarding of new clients and supporting our internal recruitment function. In November 2023 I was promoted to Recruitment Team Leader and now manage a team of 4 recruitment consultants and an internal recruiter. As of February 2024, my team has also taken on the additional responsibility of managing the internal recruitment process, in addition to supporting our existing, new and prospective client accounts. Exciting times for the team!

What do you enjoy most about your role as a recruiter?
This is a two-way tie, so you’re getting two answers!
Commercial Strategy
I’m a recruiter and leader who is always looking ahead, thinking about what business and the team can achieve, implement plans and actions on how this can be done and support everyone to hit their goals and targets to keep driving them and the business heading in the right direction. I also really enjoy learning about clients projected business growth, projects and ambitions and adapting plans on how we can support this and most importantly, delivering on this!
Finding someone a new role
I think this has to be the thing that every recruiter enjoys most, right? We are in a people business at the end of the day and proving a great service to not only your clients, but also your candidates is what you are here to do. There is no feeling that can be matched than hearing or seeing someone’s excitement after telling them that they have secured their dream role.
Do you have any tips for a candidate looking for their next permanent role in aviation?
Put yourself at the centre, but respect all businesses.
For a very long time, businesses have always been able to hold the cards in recruitment processes. This has shifted a lot over the past few years and candidates certainly have more of a say following skill shortages across a variety of trades and sectors. At the end of the day, you are a commodity. Your education, skills and experience are why many businesses will want to meet with you, no matter what you do. This puts you in a great negotiating position to ensure you are finding opportunities that suit you best.
Ensure you are meeting with businesses that reflect your goals and values and can see yourself working for and succeeding. However, on the same note, respect that many businesses may not fit this vision or be able to match your needs for various reasons.
