Tell us about your career so far
I have worked in aviation for ten years. I started working in the field of aeronautics in 2014, just after my graduation from the institute of aeronautics and aerospace in Algeria, where I got my Masters degree in aircraft propulsion.
Once I had graduated, my first job was at the airline company Tassiliairlines in Algeria. During this time I worked as a pre-flight mechanic, flight mechanic as well as base maintenance mechanic, from June, 2014 until March, 2022. In April 2022, I then moved to Canada to start my new life in North America!
Once settled in Canada, my first job was with JMC Aviation on the fuel inspection project at Windsor. I then did two other projects on fuel inspection with JMC Aviation. Once those contracts had come to an end, I started my next contract in North America, again with JMC Aviation but supporting the MRT Team as a pre-flight mechanic for Bombardier.
What attracted you to aviation as an industry?
Aviation is an exciting and fast paced industry and I enjoy being a part of it. For me, the bit I enjoy most is working with new technologies. In the aviation field I have the opportunity to work with the most advanced mechanical, electrical, aerodynamical and many other systems on a daily basis.
What is the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome in your career so far?
The biggest challenge for me so far has been choosing between working as a researcher in physics, where I had a PHD, and working as a mechanic. I like aviation and working with my hands on different types of aircrafts so it was an easy enough decision to make in the end. I made the decision to work as a mechanic and I am enjoying doing my job every single day!
How has JMC Aviation supported you in your aviation career?
I had experience in aviation in Algeria, but not in Canada. JMC Aviation trusted me and gave me the first opportunity to integrate the aviation field in Canada and has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in aviation?
It is a very exciting field, in which you can learn every day. So, if someone is ambitious and has aspirations, working in aviation has a lot to offer with many potential career paths.
