In 2018 a European Maintenance Repair Organisation was looking for a solution to improve their efficiency and demonstrate cost savings on frequently occurring repairs, customer requests and service bulletins for the aircraft on its approval.
JMC’s Head of Engineering and Head of Quality were deployed to meet with the maintenance and planning teams to understand where bottlenecks were occurring and highlight possible savings. After the initial consultation process JMC proposed the introduction of an in-house team of contract engineers who would act as flexible resource around the permanent engineers to undertake those frequently occurring tasks.
The team eventually progressed to undertaking unplanned maintenance activity, thus allowing the MRO to continue with the tasks required as part of the check programs being delivered.
In a two year period that team undertook 270 engineering projects from major structural repairs to fuel tank modification programs across a range of regional aircraft.
